About Me

My name is Matt Larimer, my wife and I were married in the fall of 2004, since then we’ve had seven children and countless adventures along the way. From renovating the small farm we live in, to full time ministry in a small church. We love God, we love our kids, we love gardening, and we love books!

I have a long list of books I love, many of which I can barely remember. But as Emerson once said, “I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” I also have a short list of my absolute favorite books, and each of the books on that list has at least one unforgettable chapter.

Some people love the “Grand Inquisitor” in the Brothers Karamazov, I have always preferred “Rebellion.” The last chapter of The Grapes of Wrath. Levin, Kitty, and the chalkboard in Chapter XIII, Part IV, of Anna Karenina, which made me cry harder than any book or movie I have ever read or watched, and I cry a lot in books and movies.

The title of this blog comes from the chapter “That Night” of George MacDonald’s Lilith and in that chapter a creature like a slowworm burrows into the chest of the princess, “piercing through the joints and marrow to the thoughts and intents of the heart.” My life has been radically changed by a few profound encounters I’ve had with the truth that have pierced me to the heart.

It is my desire to share with you my thoughts about the books I read, the topics I find interesting, and the issues facing my community (Terre Haute, Indiana). Most of all I would love to hear your thoughts on what I share, and it is my hope that along the way, you and I both, can draw closer to the truth.
